nicesun Well, This is a pretty wide ranging subject. We have all (at least from present generations) had some dealing with solar powered technology in our lives. if you used a solar powered calculator before or perhaps there are solar powered “Malibu” style lights lighting your driveway…

Solar power technology is continuing to grow.. maybe not by huge leaps and bounds but, it is growing as more University’s are getting “green” and expanding their research and development of systems, and working with various materials that have higher energy transfer rates than older technology.

And they aren’t the only ones, Companies, especially ones already in the field are creating thinner photovoltaic cells that are easier to use, Creating and using different materials that have higher energy transfer rates than older technology. Shingles that fit in with your current roofing shingles and are made of photovoltaic cells.

There are several good reasons to utilize Solar power in your home:

1.) You could reduce or even eliminate your energy bills. You could start on a small level and use the money you saved (energy NOT used and paid for) to reinvest in more panels. You could even earn “Credits” from your local utility concern. Say you go on vacation, or just don’t use as much that month.  Your panels are still working and sending energy back into the “Grid” . You build up credits for that and then later on when you need more energy. Say, during winter, You get to use those credits that you have. Check with your local utility…I’m sure there are different laws and rates state by state. But, it is possible.

2.) Adding “Green Technology” to your home increases your homes resale value. Imagine if you were selling your home and they ask about utility costs’.. you have the pleasure of telling them that you only pay half as much as the neighbors. (unless they have a better system) Or, being able to advertise a “Eco-Friendly House” don’t you think that will draw potential buyers to you?

3.) Get Government Money! You’ve given them plenty right? Well there are Federal, State, and local tax credits available nationwide for “Clean” energy products such as Solar power and Wind turbines.

4.) Its Good for the Earth. There are no pollution or harmful emissions. Save your small part of the planet and sleep easier at night. The average home produces about 350 million tons of greenhouse gases over a 25 year period (about the average mortgage term)

5.) Energy Security and Independence. You get added protection during a power outage or disaster, You also get to help decrease our dependency on foreign oil and minimize utility companies increases. Remember: Supply and demand, if enough people do this they have the leverage to continually raise energy prices.
